Title:
Integrating Array-Based Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) Methodologies into the USGS ShakeAlert EEW System
Agreement Number:
GC-130327S
Agreement Value:
$1,000,000.00
Agreement Date:
Mar 8, 2023 - May 31, 2024
Description:
The objective of this project is to integrate array-based Earthquake Early Warning methodologies into the USGS ShakeAlert EEW system. The proponent will develp a virtual array system, develop and test a digitizer-independent local array processing algorithm, and assess the resulting tools against those of the ShakeAlert system for potential integration.
Organization:
Natural Resources Canada
Expected Results:
Incorporation of array-based methodologies into EEW system will improve system performance for coastal and border regions where a more traditional EEW sensor station grid is not possible. This will enhance EEW alerts' reliability and warning times prior to the arrival of strong shaking from earthquakes.

Earthquake Early Warning
Program Purpose:
To develop a broader based and more robust national earthquake early warning system which incentivizes multiple stakeholders to provide early warning coverage over maximum areas of high seismic risk beyond the federally critical infrastructure covered by the core early warning system.
