Description:
This project will promote and accelerate the dissemination of information in smart, sustainable, and responsible mining practices and policies with a focus on the proper closure of mine sites. This project will also help support capacity building in Africa by showcasing Canadian best practices in mine closure, and feature presenters with expertise in Canada's policy and regulatory regime as well as leading international guidelines and standards.

Expected Results:

The objectives are as follows: Objective 1: showcase Canadian leadership in mine closure and sustainable mining by sharing Canada's expertise in mine closure policies, frameworks, innovations, and best practices. Contribute to increased visibility of Canada in Africa, provide the opportunity to promote Canada as a leading global supplier of responsibly sourced minerals and metals and showcase Canadian mining leadership in sustainable mining technologies and our strong ESG credentials. Objective 2: Disseminate information which supports the development of comprehensive mine closure policies and frameworks based on leading international guidelines and standards, and the adoption of innovative enabling technologies, in order to advance environmental, social, governance (ESG) as well as trade and investment objectives in the Africa region and beyond.
