Description:

Certified natural gas production and consumption could yield benefits, including climate and energy security benefits. However, there lacks an international and authoritative publication on the existing and potential market for and impacts of certified natural gas. Therefore, Canada proposes for the IEA to publish a specific report, accompanied by international engagement, dialogue and facilitation on this topic.

Expected Results:

The grant will support to raise greater awareness of the existence of the Measurement, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MMRV) framework, establish a knowledge foundation on certification, promote demand creation for cleaner gas, and enable the market to be able to differentiate between natural gas carbon intensities. The IEA will aim to release the report ahead of the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministerial Meeting in 2025
