Title:
Enhancing Biomass Availability Mapping Through Forest Inventory and Age Modeling in the NWT
Agreement Number:
SPARK2528-04
Agreement Value:
$750,000.00
Agreement Date:
Oct 7, 2025 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
The objective of this project is to improve biomass estimation and forest inventory accuracy across the Northwest Territories by combining two complementary initiatives.
Organization:
Natural Resources Canada
Expected Results:

The project will modernize outdated inventories in the Digaa Forest Management Agreement (FMA) and improve stand age modeling across the Taiga Plains, enabling more reliable biomass mapping and Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) calculations. By addressing both localized operational needs and territory-wide strategic planning requirements, the project supports Indigenous-led forest management, biomass supply chain development, and contributes to national clean fuel and carbon modeling objectives.
