The purpose of this agreement is to support the operations of an International Energy Agency (IEA) Regional Cooperation Centre in Singapore, in coordination with the IEA Clean Energy Transitions Programme, to achieve greater engagement and influence in Southeast Asia, leverage regional advantages to strengthen collaboration, and better connect IEA members to countries in the region.

The Centre’s activities align with Canadian strategic objectives, including the Indo-Pacific Strategy, Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan)Trade Diversification Strategy work, and other broader priorities (e.g., innovation partnerships in clean technology, digitalization, and critical minerals) highlighted during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the region.
