The Canadian Wood Fibre Centre (CWFC) has played a dominant role in knowledge development for woody biomass utilization in Canada. Cape Breton University (CBU) has partnered with BioEnergy Inc. and along with the CWFC has developed and tested novel equipment to produce briquettes, torrefied pellets, bio-char and activated carbon from woody biomass. The objective of the project is to cooperate in clean energy, mid-supply chain, and product development, analysis and knowledge exchange to develop novel comprehensive mid-supply chain systems and products. This project will enable CBU to investigate possible future product options for woody biomass feedstocks and facilitate the transfer of knowledge of renewable clean energy and value added bio-products to a wide array of stakeholders.
