Description:
The objective of this project is to identify the skills technicians need to safely and effectively install and maintain air source heat pumps in Canada. Building on prior work in Ontario, the Initial Recipient (promoter) will assess skill gaps in British Columbia and the Atlantic Regions, to provide a broader, national perspective on trades involved in heat pump installation. An updated curriculum, shaped by instructor and participant feedback, will support a Heat Pump Training Pilot Program offering subsidized green technology upskilling to at least 100 trade workers.

Expected Results:
The Initial Recipient will accelerate upskilling the current heat pump installation workforce by: Assessing technicians' capabilities against industry needs and identifying additional training requirements Reviewing and enhancing existing heat pump training curriculum Launching a national Heat Pump Training Pilot Training Program, through post-secondary institutions, to improve safe installation and operation for technicians and homeowners, reduce GHG emissions, increase heat pump efficiency, resulting in increased consumer confidence and demand Avoiding the workforce disruptions by providing subsidies
