Title:
BIOMASS SPATIAL OPTIMIZATION TOOLS
Agreement Number:
SPARK2528-05
Agreement Value:
$280,000.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 30, 2026 - Mar 31, 2028
Description:
The objective of this project is to identify and evaluate existing road infrastructure for biomass access, determine terrain suitability for harvesting systems, and provide tools for long-term planning for road investments and biomass accessibility.
Organization:
Natural Resources Canada
Expected Results:

This project will include the development of a decision support tool that will extract further value from LiDAR enhanced forest inventories by leveraging existing biomass and biomass projections with terrain and road infrastructure assessments to identify biomass opportunities within a forest management unit that has underutilized AAC. It will also allow for infrastructure/road analysis, as well as biomass assessment by groups of species and predicted products, such as volume of pulp, small sawlog, medium sawlog, large saw log and veneer potential. They will provide a detailed breakdown of the biomass estimate for each forest management unit for allocated and unallocated allowable cut.
