Additional Information:

Grant or Award spanning more than one fiscal year. (2017-2018 to 2019-2020)

Recipient's Legal Name:
Sheikhzadeh, Mehdi (Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology)
Program:
Applied Research and Development Grants (<$75k)
Program Purpose:

Recent technological advances in the de-vulcanization of waste elastomer scrap allows for the creation of ax000D
new category of polymeric materials. De-vulcanization technology produces elastomeric raw materialsx000D
technically and economically suitable for blending with thermoplastics. The resultant blends mimic thex000D
physical and processing properties of co- and ter- block thermoplastic elastomers.x000D
NRT Canada Inc. who has developed and patented a de-vulcanization technology for scrap thermosetx000D
elastomeric waste will collaborate with Lambton College's Centre for Industrial Material Development (CIMD)x000D
through this project is to learn how to incorporate NRT's de-vulcanized material with varying plastics tox000D
provide materials that emulate the physical and technical properties of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs).x000D
The Lambton College research team will include a research technician, research scientist and three researchx000D
students who will work closely with NRT Canada Inc to improve the function of the recycled material. Thex000D
results of the project will provide economic benefit to NRT by increasing market opportunity, manufacturingx000D
capabilities and cost competiveness. The results will also provide economic and environmental impact tox000D
Canada and the region by creating jobs, increasing exporting and global competiveness and enhancing cleanx000D
technologies.
