Collaborative Health Research Projects
Program Purpose:
Cardiac transplantation remains the gold standard therapy for the definitive treatment of endstagex000D
heart failure. However the wider application of this life saving intervention is limited byx000D
the short supply of donor organs. Compounding this problem is a high frequency of poor heartx000D
function observed in the multi-organ donor, resulting in a low utilization rate of hearts that arex000D
offered. We are developing a device that will provide continuous warm blood-based perfusionx000D
of the donor heart, permitting optimal preservation of the organ as well as functionalx000D
assessment.
