Program Purpose:

Our proposed research addresses novel modes of display and manipulation of document images onx000D
collaborative e-writing displays. Our partner company, Quirklogic, based in Calgary, AB provides e-writingx000D
displays as business productivity tools to help corporate teams spark and grow big ideas.x000D
Their flagship product, Quilla, is the world's largest eWriter, connecting people and content to boost thex000D
productivity and creativity of on-site and remote teamwork. Recently debuted at CES 2017, a global consumerx000D
electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that takes place every January in Las Vegas, NV, Quilla is ax000D
portable, thin, light, and low-energy consumption electronic whiteboard. Being always "on" and ready to use, itx000D
saves user content automatically as it is written, and lets users share workbooks with remote users for real-timex000D
collaborative content creation.x000D
QuirkLogic aims to improve how documents are imported and manipulated in Quilla. Quilla currently allows ax000D
user to import an external document that is displayed as a background, over which to create content. Thex000D
imported document is static and Quilla is not aware of what it is or what it contains, focusing solely on thex000D
user's markings. In this project, we aim to provide a smarter way to import documents for a dynamic interactionx000D
and integration via computer vision technologies.x000D
We propose to develop a framework that facilitates document, flipchart, and whiteboard image transferring tox000D
Quilla in a suitable format for display and manipulation. The development of such a framework wouldx000D
significantly enhance the user experience and broaden Quilla's scope and functionalities.
