Program Purpose:

Green Relief Inc. (GR) is a licensed producer of cannabis products. The company has been growing medicalx000D
cannabis using aquaponics under 100% artificial lighting provided by LEDs. Energy for lighting is one of thex000D
major costs for this grower as for other indoor plant growers. There is an optimum of photosynthetically activex000D
radiation (PAR) at which the yield is maximized within the constraints of the growing environment or a pointx000D
where the yield is optimized against the cost of light input. However, the company does not know the optimalx000D
PAR for their crops. Also there is no such data on cannabis in the literature at this moment. This project willx000D
determine the optimal light intensities for the production of a few main cannabis strains currently grown in thex000D
Green Relief facility. The research will be conducted jointly by the university researchers and staff of thex000D
company at the GR's facility. This project will lead to 1) an increase in revenue for a rapidly-growing Canadianx000D
biotech company; 2) broaden a Canadian company's market; 3) improve the university team's knowledge andx000D
enrich their experience in indoor production of cannabis (as well as other crops).
