Program:
Engage Grants for Universities
Program Purpose:

In collaboration with UBCeram Group Hudson Resources Inc is assessing the potential of its anorthositex000D
deposit to be used as a cementitious material with refractory properties, Chemically Bonded Anorthositex000D
Cements. These structural cements could be produced with nearly zero-CO2 emissions associated with itsx000D
production and exhibit chemical resistance to acidic and sulphate solutions. These potential properties andx000D
advantages of the novel cements will be thoroughly studied, verified and tested in simulated field conditions.x000D
The research will focus on control of processing of the cements in order to achieve the desirable properties, andx000D
to control the kinetics of the chemical bonding reactions. The resulting ceramic monolith set cements targetx000D
mechanical properties comparable with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and significant structural integrityx000D
when exposed to temperatures in excess of 1400°C.
