Program Purpose:

Genacol Canada Corporation Inc. manufactures a bovine-sourced hydrolyzed collagen supplement (Genacol®x000D
Original Formula), which has shown efficacy in two separate clinical trials for reducing joint pain. Followingx000D
digestion, hydrolyzed collagen yields bioavailable amino acids and peptides that can lead to the healthx000D
promoting properties of the supplement. There is presently no information, however, regarding the peptide andx000D
amino acid profiles generated from the digestion of the bovine-sourced Genacol collagen hydrolysate as thex000D
nature and profiles of these compounds will differ greatly depending upon of the type of processing used tox000D
produce the collagen hydrolysate and the food source of the collagen. In the present study, the profiles of thex000D
peptides and amino acids generated from digestive enzyme-mediated hydrolysis of the Genacol collagenx000D
product will be investigated using the dynamic simulated gut digestion model. This approach is the first step tox000D
ascertain the bioactive components contributing towards the health promoting properties of the Genacolx000D
collagen supplement and will aid in the development of more concentrated and potent hydrolyzed collagenx000D
products.
