Program Purpose:

The partner, Numetrix Technologies Inc., is known worldwide for its innovative 3D digitizer technology. Theyx000D
developed and commercialized a fast 3D digitizer platform with consecutive image acquisition as fast as 50x000D
microseconds, about 4000 times quicker than the closest competitor. Currently this technology is integrated inx000D
products aimed to the automotive market for tire inspection. The image quality of Numetrix Technology is nowx000D
limited by its capacity to calibrate accurately the digitizers. If Numetrix could overcome this limitation, theyx000D
could grow their market up to inspect 100% of the tires of a plantx000D
Laser high precision micromachining methodology opens wide-range new possibilities in microfabrication ofx000D
metals, polymers, semiconductors, ultrahard materials for automotive, pharmaceutical and healthcarex000D
industries. The aim of this Engage Grants project entitled "Fabrication process development for 3D digitizerx000D
calibration surfaces" is to develop a high precision calibration reference plane that Numetrix will use tox000D
calibrate their 3D digitizers.x000D
This research and development on laser based technologies will be performed in the Laser Processing andx000D
Plasmonics Laboratory (LP2L, Ecole Polytechnique) under supervision of Professor M. Meunier. The applicantx000D
has a vast expertise on laser interaction with materials and processing of advanced materials and nanomaterials.x000D
The potential of generating economic benefits to Canada from this research project could be considerable as itx000D
will establish Numetrix in its leader position at 3D inspection of tires and cars body sealing and will allow tox000D
move their technology to a new fields of applications.
