Recipient's Legal Name:
Chin, Ya-Huei Cathy (University of Toronto)
Program:
Engage Grants for Universities
Program Purpose:

The program brings together Ford Canada and researchers from the University of Toronto to develop aftertreatment technology forx000D
abatement of pollutants from the next generation automobile engine exhaust. The focus is on evaluating and developing newx000D
generation of catalysts for the oxidation of light hydrocarbons under both fuel-lean and fuel rich conditions with a multidisciplinaryx000D
approach, combining catalyst synthesis, catalyst manufacturing, material characterizations, and activity evaluation. The programx000D
will utilize the highly specialized spectroscopy and microscopy instrumentation at the recently established Ontario Centre forx000D
Characterization of Advanced Materials (OCCAM) for directly probing the catalyst materials and understanding the active sitesx000D
needed to activate the light hydrocarbons at the exhaust streams. A separate task will aim to translate the understanding ofx000D
catalytic chemistry at the fundamental level to technology evaluation with real engine exhaust at Fords Powertrain Engineeringx000D
research and Development Centre (PERDC) in Windsor.
