Program Purpose:

ADFAST Corp. (St-Laurent, QC) is one of the leading supplier of adhesives, caulking, fasteners and sealants inx000D
Canada - indeed about 70% of all sealants in building windows in Canada are derived from ADFAST'sx000D
products. These materials find application in construction, packaging, transportation, marine sealants, to namex000D
but a few; indeed, in any industry requiring sealing, fastening and adhesion. Consequently, the market is highlyx000D
competitive and innovative products constantly need to be developed to match the ever-increasing,x000D
sophisticated needs of consumers. ADFAST has been developing their own products to increase theirx000D
competitive advantage and desire to be more responsive to their customer's needs by being able to preciselyx000D
tailor their formulations. The proposed collaboration thus will combine the expertise in development ofx000D
polyurethane hybrid sealants already present at ADFAST, along with their well-equipped characterizationx000D
facilities with the added value provided by the Maric labs in design, synthesis and characterization of polymers.x000D
This proposal is two-fold: 1) provide a bench-mark to quantify ADFAST's existing formulation in terms ofx000D
molecular weight, composition and physical properties and 2) use the bench-marks established to evaluatex000D
latitude in starting materials with particular emphasis towards making greener formulations via the use ofx000D
bio-based monomers for the polyurethanes.
