In this project in collaboration with E-radio Inc. we will investigate the possibility to create a fully integrated FM radio RDS (Radiox000D
Data System) receiver for the optimization of the electrical power grid. The idea is to design a very sensitive FM radio (beyond thex000D
state of the art) that can be inserted in several IoT devices such as dishwashers, water heater, bulbs, refrigerators in order tox000D
shape their duty-cycle as function of the energy available in the power grid. The information of the status of the grid is providedx000D
using the FM radio broadcasted by radio service currently available all around the world. The research has to main targets: tox000D
explore possibility to improve the receiver sensitivity beyond the state of the art and to investigate active solution to miniaturize thex000D
antenna (currently one of the limiting factor in the size of the device). As explained in the proposal, the impact of such device in thex000D
optimization of the power grid can potentially save several billions of dollars due to the optimization of the national power grid.
