Program Purpose:

Mercury ultraviolet (UV) lamps are used in reactors to purify water. However, when there are multiple lampsx000D
in close proximity the UV light can interact by being scattered, absorbed and reflected. Currently thisx000D
interaction is not accurately accounted for in reactors. We aim to develop a more accurate model to predict thex000D
concentration of UV light throughout the reactor by taking into account interaction between multiple lamps.x000D
This will increase efficiency for the design of reactors and has the potential to allow UV reactors to be used inx000D
large-scale water treatment applications. Results from our work could ultimately lead to a reduction ofx000D
environmentally unfriendly chemicals in water treatment and better UV sensors.
