Grants and Contributions:
Grant or Award spanning more than one fiscal year (2017-2018 to 2018-2019).
Personal injury from head trauma is a frequent occurrence in many sectors of activity, including thex000D
construction industry, emergency response teams, security forces, as well as many sports at all levels. Thisx000D
project aims at the development of a sensor system designed to evaluate the performance of protectivex000D
equipment against shocks and impacts and as a result to improve their efficiency. The sensor array willx000D
measure how much of the impact gets transferred across the protective equipment over multiple points andx000D
allow engineers and biomedical scientists to calculate residual forces reaching the body. Our industrial partnerx000D
in the project has already successfully commercialized products for this purpose but they are interested inx000D
evaluating a fiber optic solution that would be smaller and lighter, that would allow for more simultaneousx000D
sensor points and higher detection speed, and at the same time potentially less expensive.
