Program:
Engage Grants for universities
Program Purpose:

Stash Energy is currently working on an energy storage technology in collaboration with Summerside Electric,x000D
which is a power utility in Prince Edward Island with the highest level of integration of wind energy in Northx000D
America. They have already shown evidence of scalability and commercial viability of this technology. Thisx000D
energy storage system uses phase change materials (PCM) which has many challenges that may restrict thex000D
product's growth. Therefore, further research is required to improve the technology.x000D
It is proposed to explore alternative methods of energy storage in Dr. F. Handan Tezel's Energy-SMART lab inx000D
the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of Ottawa, in Stash's energy storagex000D
system. This research will assist Stash Energy in developing their next line of products. In turn, Stash Energyx000D
will be better positioned to have a significant impact and to expand their market share in Canada andx000D
internationally, which will also generate jobs for scientists, engineers, and technicians in Canada. Thex000D
development of this technology has a potential to substantially reduce the greenhouse gases (GHG) in Canadax000D
and if implemented internationally, all over the world.
