Program Purpose:
This proposal will research and develop novel methods for automatic detection of forest fires from satellitex000D
image data. A machine learning approach will be adopted, whereby a detection system will be trained tox000D
recognize image patterns characteristic of forest fires, based on forest fire labels provided by an expert humanx000D
and hyperspectral 2D image data acquired by satellite. The system will be evaluated using standard detectionx000D
accuracy metrics, e.g. detection specificity and sensitivity and the area-under-the-curve (AUC) measure.
