Program Purpose:

Change detection is a critical application in remote sensing. Updated, detailed, and accurate change detection is important for almost all geo-related applications, including environmental assessment, natural resource investigation, urban planning, map updating, and even property tax estimation. Billions of dollars have been spent to collect high-resolution images for monitoring the changes on Earth. However, more than 95% of high-resolution (meter to sub-meter) remote sensing images cannot be effectively used for change detection, because of their viewing angle and/or sensor geometry differences. The main objective of this research is to advance our patent-pending technology to achieve a commercially-viable software package that can be utilized by remote sensing users to perform accurate change detection using high resolution images regardless of their viewing angle and geometry differences. The successful completion of this I2I Phase 1 project will fill an important gap in the change detection software market.
