Grants and Contributions:
Grant or Award spanning more than one fiscal year (2017-2018 to 2020-2021).
The recent Photonics boom, with applications in different sector from health to telecommunication or security, generates new horizons but also tremendous challenges to undertake. The PROTEus project focuses on 3D laser printing and multi-materials multifunctional fibers, combining glass, glass-ceramics and metals, aiming for new fiber-based technological paradigms. The PROTEus project, by taking full profit of the scientific ecosystem between the University of Bordeaux and the University of Laval, envisions implementing new research activities on multimaterial fibers fabrication and on laser-assisted processing. Subtractive, additive and laser writing approaches will be deployed for engineering complex fiber-based photonic structures. The synergetic world class expertise of the consortium will tackle the issues of multimaterials combination in fiber to enhance the device packing density and multimaterial interface quality in order to bring the research findings to practical use.
