Program Purpose:

Acoustic sensor arrays are typically wired to a central processor, responsible for logging the payload. Becausex000D
there is a need to recover the raw acoustic information in real-time, standard protocols cannot achieve thex000D
throughput requirement. In this work, a low-complexity, low-power communication link is developed to enablex000D
communication between multiple sensors, and one master controller. A bi-directional communication protocolx000D
with very low overhead is defined, and the payload from the multiple sensor nodes will be routed back usingx000D
simple time division duplexing. Also, during the reverse link, control information will be sent to the sensors.x000D
The objective of this project is to optimize the point-to-point link performance using specific front-endx000D
requirements. For this purpose, clock synchronization of the multiple nodes will be required, and the distortionx000D
of the signal due to cable bandwidth limitations will be mitigated using adaptive filters. The expertise gainedx000D
throughout this project is at the intersect of information and ocean technologies, two areas of high interest forx000D
the Canadian industry.
