Program Purpose:

Sensible Building Science and Professor Tamara Munzner will collaborate to solve a new and pressingx000D
problem for facility managers. Currently, many facility decisions are based on labour intensive manual methodsx000D
for tracking resource decisions. Facility managers responsible for services such as custodial or scheduling, needx000D
decision-support systems that will streamline their ability to allocate resources. The business opportunity isx000D
significant in terms of reducing facility expenditures. The combined cost of security, administrative, janitorialx000D
and utilities costs represents a substantial burden to building managers and owners. A BOMA 2016 studyx000D
revealed that the average facility operation cost is US$8.62 psf, and within their 900 million square feet surveyx000D
for US and Canada, this cost exceeds US$74 billion. Sensible brings experience and expertise to connectx000D
occupant intensity and facility data, along with facility costing knowledge. SBS will leverage Professorx000D
Munzner's R&D capabilities to accelerate the design of visual decision-support tools which enable on-demandx000D
response for facility managers based on past, real-time, and predictive occupancy data.
