Engage Grants for Universities
Program Purpose:

Environmental/health/process monitoring will constitute a large number of Internet of Things (IoT)x000D
applications to reduce the costs of monitoring and reaction time, and to increase the efficient utilization ofx000D
resources, logistics and a number of other factors. In order to have cost effective and successful IoT solutions,x000D
numerous communication systems as well as emerging technologies must be integrated and complemented.x000D
These solutions are particularly important for countries such as Canada since cellular communicationx000D
technologies are not available in large territories where natural resources such as forests, mines, and pipelines,x000D
are located. This project will investigate how to integrate long and short range communication systems to bex000D
operated with drones to provide environmental monitoring applications especially important for Canada suchx000D
as disaster prevention/management in "wildland fires" or "oil pipeline leaks". Establishing a method forx000D
preventing large-scale disasters will be a vital asset to the Canadian government in protecting its citizens andx000D
natural resources.
