The project is focused on the evaluation of the suitability of the PyroGenesis titanium alloys powders as ax000D
feedstock for the rapidly growing sector of additive manufacturing (AM). The AM technology used in thisx000D
study is the laser powder-bed metal fusion (LPBF) technology.x000D
Two alloys will be processed using the LPBF technology: a) Ti64 and TiAl (gamma titanium aluminide). Thisx000D
selection is based on the intent of the company to minimize the project risk-to-benefit ratio. On one hand, Ti64x000D
is the most largely used titanium alloy, and the technology readiness level related to this alloy LPBFx000D
manufacturing is high. On the other hand, TiAl belongs to an emerging class of high temperaturex000D
titanium-based intermetallics, and this alloy is not yet available on the powder feedstock market.x000D
The deliverables of the project are: a) mechanical and geometric characteristics of Ti64 LPBF-builtx000D
components; b) set of optimized parameters for laser fusion of TiAl powders, and c) production costs of Ti64x000D
and TiAl powders.
