Lumenari BioSciences Ltd. and the College of New Caledonia are collaborating on an applied research projectx000D
to research the effects of controlling light spectrum on plant responses in horticulture applications. Lumenarix000D
produces high-efficiency LED lighting systems for horticulture applications that feature a number of importantx000D
innovations, including light spectrum control and internet of things (IoT) technology. Lumenari seeks tox000D
conduct research into how controlling spectrum ratios in their lighting systems may help growers optimizex000D
plant growth or other characteristics. Data from this project will help the company research, develop andx000D
commercialize new LED lighting systems that are customizable to individual plant crops, and will also helpx000D
their clients maximize plant growth using LED lighting systems.x000D
This project will involve faculty and students from the College's Horticulture Technician and Agribusinessx000D
program in Quesnel. This project will be integrated into the course curriculum and will help teach studentsx000D
about emerging technologies that allow for year-round food production in cold climates, as well as datax000D
collection and applied research. Economic diversification and hi-tech agriculture are emerging priorities inx000D
northern BC, and this project will help develop skillsets in our students to contribute to these priorities.
