National Concrete Accessories (NCA) is a world leader that specializes in a variety of products used in thex000D
concrete reinforcement industry, including lifting inserts and anchors used to handle and transport precastx000D
concrete elements. NCA provides design guidance and support for applications of their products to practicingx000D
engineers, contractors, and architects. It has recently emerged that not enough is understood about the specificx000D
failure modes and behaviour of newly developed anchoring systems, especially under unique design scenariosx000D
and varying load distributions. Determining the behaviour and failure mechanisms of these anchor systemsx000D
under both typical and unique design scenarios would allow for more accurate strength estimations and morex000D
efficient designs. This research aims to understand how the design parameters of steel anchor rods in concretex000D
(e.g. edge distance, embedment depth, and loading conditions) effect their ultimate strength and mode ofx000D
failure. In addition, finite element modelling of these anchor systems will allow for more in-depth analysis ofx000D
their behaviour and assist in the development of anchor strength models and design examples. This informationx000D
will directly impact and be used by practicing Canadian engineers engaged in the design and handling ofx000D
precast elements and ultimately strengthen the Canadian precast concrete industry.
