Program Purpose:

Neurostimulation can improve life of people with some neurology disorders. From few electrodes in the 90s,x000D
implants can now handle hundreds and open windows to more complex and faster stimulation strategies. Thex000D
ocular implant fits very well in this pattern. Currently, implants with more than 200 electrodes exist. Thisx000D
number is constantly increasing thank to electronics and materials improvements. However, futurex000D
developments in this field are facing new challenges. The electrode density requires to embed more and morex000D
electronics channel in Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) which requires more real estate, morex000D
power and a communication link with a higher data rate and a better efficiency. iBIONICS already have a 256x000D
channel ASIC. The Engage plus project will consist in proposing solutions for reducing the current static powerx000D
consumption of the ASIC of 10 mW to less than 1 mW. The works will target the power supply tree andx000D
interactions with a photovoltaic cell that will provide energy to the implant. These innovative works will pavex000D
the way to future ocular prosthesis requirements.
