Program Purpose:

CIRKA Distilleries, a micro-distillery located in Montréal hopes to be the foremost grain-to-bottle distillery inx000D
Québec. The company is still in its infancy (incorporated in 2014) and only recently, as of November 2016, isx000D
distributing its products at the Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ). As demand for its products willx000D
increase, conversely so will production, the company wishes to improve its waste management practices. Atx000D
present, CIRKA produces approximately 4 tonnes of wet waste per week - equivalent to 2 tonnes of dry solids.x000D
This research project will focus on evaluating the suitability of CIRKA's distiller wet waste for the cultivationx000D
of Pleurotus salmoneo-stramineus (pink oyster mushroom) and Pleurotus citrinopileatus (yellow oysterx000D
mushroom). The project will study the influence of different growth substrates and UV exposure on the vitaminx000D
A and vitamin D content of these two varieties.
