Numerous technologies are under development by electric utilities to improve energy efficiency in industrialx000D
and residential settings. With high-speed internet networking, customers and utilities are interconnected via ax000D
grid, termed in the industry Smart Grid, providing an opportunity to monitor clients and deliver (and receive)x000D
energy in a more optimal manner. Importantly electric utilities see this as an opportunity to meet governmentx000D
objectives on reducing green-house gas emissions. One Smart Grid technology avenue is the delivery ofx000D
energy at off peak times to customers, where it is stored on-site and then delivered during peak hours. Thisx000D
accomplished at large scale allows utilities to generate power in a more efficient manner. There are numerousx000D
technologies under development for off peak delivery and one under consideration is electric radiant heatingx000D
combined with thermal storage and release. The present proposal investigates this technology relative tox000D
traditional technologies that are not as amenable to Smart Grid connectivity. The intent is to establish radiantx000D
electric combined with thermal storage and release as a viable alternative to traditional heating technologiesx000D
and therefore a promising technology for the Smart Grid.
