Graphene oxide (GO) is a recently invented 2D nanoplane fiber. GO is typically produced via the chemicalx000D
oxidation and exfoliation of graphite. Some authors have also reported that reinforcing the cement matrix withx000D
GO results in the formation of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel in the micropores, thereby enhancing thex000D
resultant composite's mechanical properties. Markedly few studies have examined the durability ofx000D
GO-cement-based composites. This proposed research program aims to examine the workability, hydrationx000D
kinetics, mechanical properties and the transport properties of graphene-cement composites using purex000D
graphene, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide.x000D
Critical examination of the effect of the three types of graphene powders on the properties and performancex000D
of cement based composites will allow for a better understanding of the type of form graphene is most suitablex000D
for application to construction materials. In addition, the evaluation of the material chemistry, evolution of thex000D
properties is warranted to shed light on the corresponding hydration mechanism.
