Program Purpose:

Wireless communications is a multibillion dollar international business and there are now a number of maturex000D
and emerging radio standards with readily available chipsets on the market such as WiFi, Ultra-Wide Bandx000D
(UWB) and RFID. With these technologies new applications are starting to emerge. It is now possible to makex000D
use of wireless transceivers for localization and high precision position finding of objects in indoorx000D
environments. Intense research is beginning to make mapping of rooms with high precision using only a couplex000D
of very low cost transceivers a reality. This could have many potential applications, including assisted livingx000D
for people with vision impairments or elderly persons. It could also be used in warehouses to remotelyx000D
determine the location of inventory in real time.
