Program Purpose:

The study proposed will enable emerging sensor technologies to be combined with established manufacturingx000D
capabilities within Canada that will have both economic and societal through the development of novelx000D
thin-film sensor technology. The project will combine the nanoparticle materials development of Medellax000D
Health with the process development expertise of Professor William Wong's group at the University ofx000D
Waterloo. The integration of the materials invented by Medella Health and thin-film transistor (TFT)x000D
micro-fabrication technology developed at the Giga-to-Nanoelectronics Center at the University of Waterloo.x000D
Specifically, the project will allow the integration of amorphous silicon TFTs and nanoparticle solutions. Thex000D
integrated sensors will operate by detecting analytes that react with the nanoparticles on the TFTs, which willx000D
be detected through changes in the operational parameters of the TFTs. The successful outcome of the projectx000D
will create novel sensor technology products that will enable Canadian electronic device manufacturers tox000D
penetrate the multi-billion dollar health-care market.
