Breaking down barriers to youth engagement in STEM is at the heart of Actua's mission. Actua is committed to bridging the gap between vital STEM experiences and youths who are typically underrepresented and underserved in STEM. Actua is a national leader in the development and delivery of customized programming for Indigenous youth, girls, socioeconomically disadvantaged youth and youth living in remote communities or inner-city neighbourhoods.

Effectively changing awareness, attitudes and behaviors of youth toward STEM. Over 80% of youth state that their confidence and enjoyment of STEM increases as a result of their Actua experience, and over 70% indicate that their Actua experience makes them want to further pursue science or engineering. Each of these represent important pre-determinants of youth future behaviors.

Polar Knowledge Application Program
Program Purpose:
This Program aims to lead the mobilization of polar science and technology into action. CHARS will "analyse and disseminate polar knowledge from its Science and Technology Program, as well as that from current federal, territorial and other stakeholders, and investments to inform management, programming and policies; promote Artic science and technology nationally and internationally; and build capacity through training, outreach, and learning opportunities. This will ensure polar knowledge is relevant to stakeholders and builds a science culture in Canada.
