Grants and Contributions:
The Climate Change Adaptation Framework, the Water Strategy Action Plan, trans-boundary water agreements, and other key GNWT initiatives explicitly call for new decision support tools. CPET responds directly to this call by putting into the hands of users, customised science- based predictive tools designed to meet their specialised decision needs so that water resource management and mitigation strategies can be confidently applied. An example of how users in the NWT will benefit from CPET’s new knowledge and predictive tools is provided by the Mackenzie Valley Land & Water Board (MVLWB), responsible for issuing land-use permits and water licenses. Use of the new tools by both licence/permit applicants and by those evaluating the environmental impact on behalf of the Board, will increase the scientific basis of decision making.
The Science and Technology program aims to create a strong research presence in Canada’s Arctic through POLAR. The program builds a knowledge base to support effective solutions to Arctic issues, northern policy and research development, and advances Canada’s position as a leading Arctic nation.
