Title:
Permafrost, thermokarst, and vegetation dynamics: mapping the availability of terrestrial lichen and other forage plants
Agreement Number:
NST-2122-0042
Agreement Value:
$450,000.00
Agreement Date:
Apr 1, 2021 - Mar 31, 2024
Description:
Rapid permafrost thaw events can dramatically change vegetation of a landscape, in particular fire-driven changes, reducing lichen availability to caribou. This study will assess how and where permafrost degradation will most affect caribou in the NWT, using field measurements in-line with remote sensing techniques. Modelling will aid in the prediction of forage vegetation supply.
