Description:
This project will reconstruct Antarctic climate variability over the past 2,000 years, with a particular focus on understanding historical precipitation patterns, using ice-core isotope records and innovative climate-mode statistical methods. By developing a new approach that can simultaneously reconstruct temperature, precipitation, and other climate variables, the research will improve understanding of natural Antarctic climate variability and provide valuable data for testing and refining climate models. The findings will support more accurate projections of future climate change, sea-level rise, and global climate impacts, while also offering methods that could be applied to other data-sparse regions such as the Canadian Arctic.
