Description:

This project will investigate how climate-driven landscape changes in the Western Canadian Arctic, including permafrost thaw, vegetation shifts, and increased tundra fire, are affecting habitat for beavers, birds, and moose that are important to northern communities. Using satellite mapping, acoustic bird monitoring, drone surveys, and wildlife tracking data, the research will assess changes in species distribution, habitat use, and ecosystem dynamics across the region. The findings will support Indigenous communities, harvesters, co-management boards, and land managers in making informed decisions about wildlife conservation, harvesting, and adaptation to environmental change.
