Description:

This project will investigate the environmental and human health impacts of contaminants released from open-air waste burning in Inuit communities across Nunavik, Nunavut, and Greenland. By combining Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit with Western scientific approaches, the research will use the common raven as a bioindicator species and integrate contaminant analyses, ecological observations, and community interviews to better understand local contamination and community perspectives on waste management. The findings will support northern communities and decision-makers by providing accessible information, including visual arts-based knowledge sharing, to inform improved waste management practices and locally relevant environmental solutions.
