Description:
This project will combine Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit with groundwater and permafrost science to better understand how climate change is altering winter groundwater movement and the occurrence of groundwater springs near Inuit communities in Nunavut. Using community knowledge, satellite imagery, and field measurements, the research will identify and assess groundwater-related hazards that can affect winter travel routes used for snowmobiling and dog sledding. The findings will improve predictions of future groundwater spring occurrence, support community resilience planning, and provide valuable information for adapting to environmental change in regions of continuous permafrost.
