Title:
Improved Snowfall Estimation in support of Avalanche Hazard Assessment
Agreement Value:
$431,600.00
Agreement Date:
Jun 30, 2021 - Jun 30, 2024
Description:
The main goal of the project is to increase the quality of the Canadian Precipitation Analysis (CaPA), an operational product developed and supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and the quantitative precipitation forecasts over mountain regions in winter.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:
Improved precipitation products will be available for three winters at two resolutions. The improved version of CaPA developed during this project as well as the new observation datasets included in CaPA will be transferred to the operational version of CaPA operated in real-time at Environment and Climate Change Canada. The Canadian avalanche safety community will be able to integrate this operational precipitation product in the daily production of avalanche hazard bulletins, for example though the Avalanche Forecasting System of Parks Canada.
