The Flood Risk Mitigation Strategy for Lower Cove would investigate the impact of the tides, storm surge and Sea Level Rise on the Lower Cove Sewer System and determine a strategy for mitigating the effects of coastal flooding on the City's infrastructure in this area.

Reducing or eliminating untreated sewerage overflows into the Saint John Harbour which will avoid the contamination of the water and potential public safety issues. - maintaining the municipal wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment facility in good order to avoid the potential for substantial costs associated with flooded mechanical and electrical equipment - developing systems to avoid or eliminate sewer back up into residential homes and businesses. - lowering the City's vulnerability to flooding and infrastructure replacements costs as well as the City's dependence on Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) programs.
