Agreement Value:

Agreement Date:

Description:
Boating Safety Speaks (BoSS) is a national initiative to deliver boating safety messages like they have never been delivered before. Over its 3 years, 6 individual campaigns using Augmented Reality, an immersive interactive learning experience for boaters, will be created on subjects to reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of SAR missions. CSBC's relationships with boating safety stakeholders, marine industry, and media will be leveraged to get maximum exposure for a small media budget.
Organization:
Public Safety Canada
Expected Results:

The short term outcomes include using the knowledge obtained from a CSBC research study in behavior barriers & motivators & research built into the campaign to develop messaging strategies to reduce the likelihood of people getting into trouble on the water & the need for SAR call-outs. The campaigns will start with highly creative, boating safety messages & social media traditionally delivered to attract attention, & then use AR & “accompanying” mobile web sites to provide a full story. Medium term: These include the longer term changing of boating behavior, which will lead to less calls on SAR resources & fewer fatalities. The effectiveness measurement of the program is through quantitative research & distribution success with measurement of media impressions & online analytics of AR activations & click to the web pages. The findings of Boss both in creative execution & technology uptake will be widely shared with other boating safety stakeholders to aid in their own outreach activities.
