This project is about enhancing the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in search and rescue so as to improve final outcomes, improving interoperability between resources and among jurisdictions as well as streamlining record keeping and reporting.

Immediate Outcomes:
The hardware and software for project implementation has been acquired, configured, and is ready for use.

Intermediate Outcomes:
PEI GSAR team members are trained as power users and filed users and are competently using the geographic information systems, web GIS tools, and cellular technologies during live searches and training exercises.

Long Term Outcomes:
There is enhanced interoperability between PEI GSAR and other emergency management partners as demonstrated during training exercises and in a variety of emergency situations. Other ground search and rescue teams have learned about the PEI GSAR case study and may consider implementation in their jurisdictions.
