Description:
The purpose of this project is to develop an assessment method to assist in determining the "Maximum Time to be Rescued" for ships. This will ensure that vessels undertaking polar voyages have adequate capacity to survive until help arrives.

Expected Results:

Short term: During the study period stakeholders will become much more aware of the issues related to SAR, including survivor support. This should provide for better preparation by those in the north, those travelling to the north, and those responding to incidents in the north.
Medium term:  Shipowners, TCMS and classification societies will use common information for issuing Polar Code Ship Certificates and shipowners will be able to report on changes made to preparedness in light of the information provided.
