Description:
Gift Lake’ Community Safety Plan committee will reconvene to refresh the previously developed Community Safety Plan, inform the community, revitalize the Metis Block Parent and Community Safety Group and deliver planned activities related to the reduction of crime and safety issues associated with alcohol, violence and the use/sale of drugs. The ultimate goal is to ensure that members who volunteer to be part of the block parents and the community safety group are well equipped and prepared and that their safety is not put in danger while doing their duties.

Expected Results:

The expected outcomes of this project include:
Increased sense of safety for residents of Gift Lake Metis Settlement.
Increased level of community participation as community member's buy-in to the Community Safety Plan.
Creation of safe place for those in need with the block parent homes.
Creation of/improved broader community engagement with activities and knowledge transfer.
Reduction of criminal activities taking place in the community.
Increased/improved knowledge and awareness of community members with regards to safety and drugs (prevention, abuse, safe usage, safety, health, crime, violence, consequences etc.).
Increased awareness with regards to drugs and the effects it has on individuals, families, communities and all other aspects of life.

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
