Description:
The 3 Year Comprehensive Safety Strategy project will deliver Youth Leadership Camps, Youth at Risk Workshops and Healing Circles in an effort to address youth violence, addictions, mental health issues etc. It will identify barriers and gaps to providing individualized and community solutions, increase partnerships to strengthen interagency collaboration by providing direct services that include healing circles, workshops and restorative justice approaches.

Expected Results:

The expected immediate to long-term outcomes of this project will include: increased engagement with community and increased awareness on crime prevention interventions; greater inter-agency collaboration and information sharing; developed safety policies, increased mental health services, family supports, development of health & wellness resource library; identification of processes/best practices used by organizations in the development of programs, services, and partnerships; and cultural education, safety and competency as strength based approaches to equip youth with increased knowledge of culture, traditions, innate leadership skills, environment, problem solving skills, patience etc.

Program Purpose:

The purpose of the contributions is to provide support to Aboriginal organizations (on and off-reserve), Aboriginal governments and municipalities in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations and or communities to develop tailored approaches to community safety, alternatives to incarceration and reintegration of Aboriginal offenders that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Aboriginal communities.
